Excavation excavated - preparations for building construction begin
An impressive excavation pit is opening up on the grounds of the Evangelical Foundation Alsterdorf (ESA): At the corner of Dorothea-Kasten-Straße and Elisabeth-Flügge-Straße, it becomes clear that everything is now ready for the new building at the Evangelical Hospital Alsterdorf (EKA).
The excavation pit is eight meters deep and 50x50 meters wide - since the beginning of October around 750 truckloads of around 12,500 cubic meters of excavated material have been transported to the respective landfills. Construction work will start soon. Due to the pandemic, the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone planned for the beginning of December with the Senator for Social Affairs and Health, Dr. Melanie Leonhard will be postponed to spring 2022.
EKA Managing Director Michael Schmitz: “Despite difficult framework conditions - I'll only mention delivery bottlenecks and general price developments - we have been able to stay within the overall budget so far. Even if there are minor changes in the schedule, we are confident that we will be able to celebrate the opening as planned in late summer 2023. "
The supplementary new building at the Evangelical Hospital Alsterdorf (EKA) is being built on the site of the already demolished Wichernhaus. In addition to the inpatient beds of the psychiatry and psychotherapy department and therapy rooms, a geriatric day clinic, a ward for qualified withdrawal and an epilepsy (EPI) functional area and intensive monitoring will move into it. The planning of the new building aims to promote optimal care for patients with and without disabilities and to offer employees good working conditions in modern rooms. The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is funding the construction with around 47 million euros.
