Exactly 10 years ago, on December 17, 2014, the Ronald McDonald House with Oase Hamburg-Altona was opened on the grounds of the Altona Children's Hospital (AKK), initially with 11 family apartments. Due to high demand, the "home away from home" is now being expanded with an additional level and 9 more apartments, each with its own kitchen, dining area, and an additional lounge area, bringing the total number of apartments to 20.
We are very pleased to be able to implement this important expansion of the original parents' house for families of seriously ill children, which we also planned, on behalf of and in collaboration with the AKK and the McDonald's Children’s Aid Foundation.
It’s good that, 10 years ago, we already planned for the possibility of expanding the building, and now we can make that a reality for the users.
This is also a special project for us, as this expansion will enable up to 450 parents or families each year – almost twice as many as before – to live close to their often very seriously ill children, siblings, or grandchildren, and the extended spaces will provide a temporary home for these people!
