On the premises of the Wichernhaus in Alsterdorf, the new psychiatric department of the Evangelisches Krankenhaus Alsterdorf (EKA) has been constructed, featuring extensive functional areas. In accordance with the EKA's care mandate, the focus is on patients with mental and physical disabilities. In addition to the inpatient beds for the psychiatric departments, a geriatric day clinic, a bed unit for qualified detoxification, and on the upper floors, an epilepsy (EPI) functional area with intensive monitoring have been planned as an extension to the current main building. With these additional intensive monitoring beds, the EKA will become one of the largest and most modern epilepsy centers in Germany. The planning was carried out in close coordination with the user groups and aimed to provide all employees and patients with a holistic and comprehensive redesign of the Psychiatry and Psychotherapy department at EKA, to optimally combine work with and for patients, healing, and life. All of this is located in a building that integrates well into the distinctive environment of the Evangelische Stiftung Alsterdorf site from an urban planning perspective.
